Mailing Envelopes: Options and Materials

While preparing a shipping room, you may be thinking about categorizing storage placed with respect to the types of packaging options, i.e. boxes and envelopes etc. However, you will soon find out that you are going to do more than this very basic classification because the packaging options can further subcategorized from the perspectives of materials, shapes and sizes.

In this scenario, we will talk about the envelopes. You may think of envelope as a paper bag. But the matter of fact is that there are several types of mailing envelopes also available. Each type of mailer is ideal for the packaging and shipping of a specific group of items.

Mailing bag materials

Mailing bags are used for the shipping of flat or nearly flat items. Depending on the type of item that you want to ship, you can choose from a range of envelopes made of different materials. Some of those materials are worth mentioning here.

  • If you want to mail a casual document or a flat parcel, you can consider using mailing bag made of paper. Paper offers adequate protection to a range of printed materials.
  • Another type of mailing envelop is the Ship Lite Envelope. This envelope is 6 times more durable as compared to other conventional mailing envelopes. It is made from paper reinforced with fiber.
  • Another type that you can choose is the poly mailer. This envelope is ideal when there is a risk of moisture or accidental damage to the items during shipping. This envelope is even stronger as compared to the ones made of reinforced paper.
  • Another type of envelope is the one made of tyvek. This material is so strong that it can even wrap a house. This material is known for its ability to resist moisture and leaks.
  • If you are more concerned about avoiding wear and tear rather than padding, you can consider using Nylon Reinforced Mailers. This mailer is quite lightweight and highly strong. It can help you save the freight costs.

Types of envelopes and mailers

From the perspective of shape, there are different types of mailers and envelopes.

  • The first type to talk about is the padded one. These mailers basically aim at providing extra cushioning to the items. These mailers are basically a combination of kraft paper and bubble wrap. The bubble wrap is encased in the kraft paper.
  • Expansion Envelopes are most commonly used for the packing of documents or other types of items. These envelopes expand as you fill items in them. These envelopes are made of different materials. Typically, these envelopes are resistant to moisture.
  • If you want to ship artwork, posters or wallpaper rolls, you can consider using extra-long mailers. These mailers are constructed using polyethylene or other moisture resistant materials.
